Introducing Anna Vinnitskaya

feat. Shostakovich, Brahms & Bach

Play all

In this week’s artist feature collection we are introducing you to Anna Vinnitskaya, a charismatic young pianist from Novorossijsk, Russia.

Her early career has already earned Anna numerous, prestigious awards and the press and her fans adore her for her virtuosity as well as technical and musical brilliance. After her first CD of Dimitri Shostakovich’s piano concertos, which has reached international acclaim, she is now releasing her new studio album with solo works by Johannes Brahms.

In this collection, Anna has personally selected some of her most favourite pieces from both recordings, which, we are sure, are seriously going to lift your spirits! We are starting off with the rhythmically powerful 2nd piano concerto by Dimitri Shostakovitch with it’s contrasting sensitive and deeply emotional second movement. It is followed by a short “Tarantella”, a traditional Italian dance by the same composer. Next up, the expressive and dramatic Partita No.2 (in d minor) by Johann Sebastian Bach. It was originally written for solo violin, but in this case you will hear a transcription for solo piano by composer Johannes Brahms – and it comes with a twist: it’s arranged for one, the left hand, only. The collection is rounded off with two further compositions by Brahms, the Capriccio in f sharp minor from his 8 Pieces for Piano, the Intermezzo in E major from the 7 Fantasies.

“My goal,” says Vinnitskaya, “is to play in such a way that people have the impression of watching a gripping film or reading a captivating book”. Curious? Tune in – this one is a page-turner!
